Meet Our Director of Nursing
Kathleen Schaefer, RN, BS, CNOR, CFNFA
Kathleen Schaefer is the Director of Nursing at Huntingdon Valley Surgery Center, where she is responsible for coordinating the daily
clinical activities. She brings to this position over 35 years of nursing experience, 15 years of which are in the ambulatory surgery arena.
Ms. Schaefer is a graduate of the Lenox Hill Hospital School of Nursing in New York City, where she received a Diploma in Nursing in 1971.
Following a move to the Philadelphia area, she worked as an Obstetrics nurse from 1978 until 1989. Her career in the cutting edge field of ambulatory
surgery began in 1989, when she joined the operating room staff of a mulit-specialty free standing surgery center. Since1992, Kathleen has maintained a
Certification as a Registered Nurse in the Operating Room (CNOR). In December 1999, she became a Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant (CRNFA).
In May of 2000, she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Arts and Award for Academic Excellence from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, IL.
In December of 2003, she joined the Huntingdon Valley Surgery Center as an Operating Room staff nurse and First Assistant. In 2005,
Kathleen was named as the Operating Room Coordinator. In August 2006, she was appointed as the Director of Nursing.
Ms. Schaefer’s professional memberships include the Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN) since 1990. She has been a member or
the RN First Assistant Specialty Assembly since 1997, and a member of the Ambulatory Surgery Specialty Assembly since 2004.
